Public Protection Officer – Environmental Health (Food Hygiene and Food Standards) – Career Pathway

  • Location: Based in County Hall, Ruthin / Remote home working (travel throughout the county of Denbighshire is vital within this role)
  • Salary: Career Pathway Grades 6 – 9 (£32,597 – £42,839 per annum)
  • Hours: 37 per week
  • Contract: Permanent

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to join our Food Safety Team within Public Protection. These roles are ideal for individuals looking to make a meaningful impact by safeguarding public health and ensuring high standards across local food businesses.

About the Role

As part of a dedicated and professional team, you will be responsible for enforcing food hygiene, food standards and health and safety across a diverse range of food premises throughout the county and undertaking infectious disease control.

Your work will be varied and rewarding, including:

  • Carrying out pro-active and reactive inspection of food premises to ensure compliance with food legislation and where appropriate take enforcement action
  • Undertaking targeted project work to improve service delivery and outcomes
  • Investigating complaints relating to food safety and standards
  • Responding to and managing infectious disease notifications
  • Working proactively with businesses to support compliance and promote best practice
  • Working within other disciplines of environmental health i.e. health and safety, pollution control, housing enforcement and public health using enforcement action as necessary.

  • Fully qualified Environmental Health Officers with relevant experience

For those starting out, we offer a fully supported pathway to qualification, including sponsorship of both academic and practical training, enabling you to become a CIEH-registered Environmental Health Officer. Applicants will be required to enrol on and commit to either the MSc or BSc Environmental Health course commencing this autumn.
