Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated pharmacist to join our small team focusing on medicines utilisation and the supply of specialist, hospital-only medicines across Dumfries & Galloway. The post holder will provide specialist clinical pharmacy services and advice to patients prescribed, and clinicians prescribing biologic medicines. The role includes a generalist understanding of specialties including rheumatology, gastroenterology, dermatology and neurology, with expectations to develop in-depth knowledge in one or more areas.
The post emphasizes supporting clinical teams to provide a clinically effective and cost-efficient service, and encourages generating new ideas to support delivery of this work.
The post holder will be supported by the senior medicines utilisation pharmacist and will provide clinical expertise to the pharmacy homecare team. They should be an independent prescriber or working towards this, and will be encouraged to integrate into multidisciplinary teams with opportunities to introduce pharmacist clinics and champion the role of pharmacist prescribers in biologics.
Responsibilities- Provide specialist clinical pharmacy services and advice to patients prescribed biologics and to clinicians prescribing biologic medicines.
- Develop a general understanding of specialties (rheumatology, gastroenterology, dermatology, neurology) with the expectation to gain in-depth knowledge in one or more areas.
- Support clinical teams to deliver a clinically effective and cost-efficient service.
- Generate ideas to support service delivery and improvements.
- Work with the pharmacy homecare team and integrate into multidisciplinary teams; consider introducing pharmacist clinics and promoting the role of pharmacist prescribers in biologics.
- Based at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, in Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland.
- The post is for 21.6 hours per week; work pattern is open to discussion on appointment based on service needs.
- Requirements include participating in general clinical, dispensary, weekend and on-call services as required.
- Pharmacist with independent prescribing status or working towards this.
- Interest in specialities such as rheumatology, gastroenterology, dermatology and neurology with a view to developing in-depth knowledge.
- Ability to integrate into multidisciplinary teams and contribute to pharmacist-led clinics where relevant.
- Eligibility to work in the UK and status to undertake required professional registrations.
