Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone with A level qualifications or college equivalent to become a Band 3 – Apprentice Clinical Physiologist in Neurophysiology.

Main duties of the job

During this programme you will develop the skills and dexterity to plan, perform and interpret routine electroencephalographic (EEG) investigations and become part of the diagnostic Neurophysiology team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be seeing a range of different patients in a variety of hospital settings and learn specialist techniques with regard to neurophysiology investigations, including sleep deprivation and recordings in the intensive care settings.

The successful candidate will complete:

  • The Association of Neurophysiological Scientist (ANS) standalone EEG examination (ANS Part 1).
  • The level 6 Healthcare Science Practitioner Training Program (BSc Healthcare Science – Neurophysiology) course, or equivalent, subject to funding.
Person specification Essential & Desirable
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or higher including English, Maths, and Science
  • A Level or equivalent college course (Grade BBB or UKAS 112 – 128 points) including science subjects
  • Special skills/aptitudes – communication, sensitive information handling, hand/eye coordination, participation in training, maintain safe working environment, IT literate
  • Other factors – understanding of patients, ability to work alone and in team, enthusiasm, good attendance record, organised, ability to cope with unpleasant conditions, routine cleaning
  • Shows understanding of the role of and investigations performed by Clinical Physiologists (Neurophysiology)
  • Experience in healthcare setting, knowledge of Neurophysiology, work experience in Neurophysiology, working in an MDT, working with patients, and working with the public
  • Further training – patient care training, customer care training
