The Edinburgh Cancer Centre at the Western General Hospital is a participating centre of the NRS South-East Cancer Research Network (SE-CRN), an organisation which aims to increase patient participation in cancer clinical trials throughout Scotland. SE-CRN supports the provision of cancer clinical trials in a geographic area comprising the Health Board areas of NHS Lothian, NHS Fife, NHS Borders and NHS Dumfries and Galloway.
ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will collaborate with existing data management staff and medical and nursing colleagues to facilitate the collection and reporting of high‑quality clinical data for clinical trials, ensuring adherence to protocol requirements and recognised standards, such as ICH GCP. The role includes recording and reporting clinical data and closely liaising with clinical trial sponsors and coordinating centres to ensure that all aspects in the delivery of clinical trials comply with regulatory guidelines and sponsor requirements.
QualificationsEducated to degree level or with relevant experience, the post‑holder should have strong analytical and reporting skills with an ability to focus on detail. Previous experience in a clinical trial environment and knowledge of medical terminology would be advantageous. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for developing professional relationships across all clinical and non‑clinical staff groups and departments involved in the running of clinical trials.
The post‑holder must demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in an ever‑changing work environment, including the ability to work on trials across a variety of cancer groups when required to meet departmental demand.
Transportation:
The post holder will be expected to work from site for their contracted hours. This post is not suitable for home or remote working. To work in the United Kingdom, an individual must demonstrate the relevant permission to work in the country; this is granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service. Legal and security:
The post requires the post holder to have a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme membership or record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult), an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post. Due to legislative changes effective 1 April 2025, the level of criminal records check may change;
the appointment will be subject to joining the PVG Scheme if assessed as a regulated role. Further details are available at the appropriate NHS Scotland site.
