Position Overview
Under the direction of the Administration, the Alexander College Health and Wellness Counsellor is responsible for delivering counselling services to benefit the mental health and well‑being of the students of Alexander College. The Health and Wellness counsellor works within the larger Division of Student Support to foster a culture of positivity and collaboration at Alexander College.

In accordance with the BCACC and its Ethical Code of Conduct, the Health and Wellness Counsellor provides confidential guidance and mental health counselling services on an appointment basis to students actively attending the college. The Counsellor will provide services in a confidential setting that allows students to express themselves and explore their personal, social and psychological issues without fear of judgment.

Through the counselling process, the role supports students so they may gain a better awareness of their concerns and ways to cope with them.

Working with the other members of the Health and Wellness Unit, the Counsellor will provide services at both the Burnaby and Vancouver campuses and must be able to travel between them.

Reporting Relationship
Reports to the Director of Campus Operations.

Employment Type

Temporary, Full-Time, 1 Year Contract (May 2026 – May 2027), with the possibility of extension.

Salary Range
$55,000 – $62,000 per year.

Work Week
The Employee will work during regular business hours, Monday to Friday.

Location
Burnaby and Vancouver Campus, flexibility to travel between campuses will be required. Some remote work is permitted with approval from the Director.

Education & Experience Requirements

A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology (or a related field).

Registration with BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (RCC) or Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCC).

Minimum one‑year experience working in the post‑secondary or similar environment.

Qualifications

Experience in clinical assessment and identifying needs for crisis intervention.

Excellent interpersonal & relationship building skills.

Superior teamwork capabilities.

Superior oral and written communication skills.

Ability to maintain professionalism and cordiality when working with others.

Ability to maintain collegial relationships with staff members and faculty.

Ability to maintain confidentiality for all clients.

Strong ability to take initiative and complete tasks as assigned.

Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel.

Ability to demonstrate instructional experience for the delivery of Health and Wellness workshops.

Ability to communicate effectively with users from a wide variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Experience providing counseling support to teenagers and young adults.

Specific Responsibilities
Counselling Duties

Conduct clinical counselling sessions on an as‑needed appointment basis for students.

Formulate and implement treatment plans and maintain confidential student records.

Identify students at risk, assess and appropriately respond to crisis situations.

Plan, prepare and conduct group workshops on prevalent issues affecting domestic and international students.

Liaise with and develop familiarity with external community resources.

Develop information resources on topics relevant to post‑secondary students.

Participate in student outreach activities including classroom visits to advertise services, and special tabling events such as Orientation.

Represent Alexander College Health and Wellness Department at internal and external events and meetings.

Administrative Functions

Communicate with college administration, committees, and external stakeholders.

Maintain appointment data and scheduling.

Contribute to program and policy development, including HW‑related student activities.

Work with staff from other divisions on creating and implementing new initiatives at the College.

Assist with Institutional Effectiveness and other division reports and accreditation needs, as required.

Provide students with information about other counselling services and resources that are available.

Maintain professional development, associations, and memberships.
