The Role

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is looking for Health Care Support Workers to join our Inpatient Mental Health Services team. Working as part of a skilled multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in delivering person‑centred, recovery‑focused care that makes a genuine difference to patients and their families.

Based within our inpatient services, you will help create a safe, therapeutic environment that promotes recovery, dignity and respect for all.

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
  • Full‑time, permanent
  • You will be based at Gartnavel Royal Hospital
  • Working between Monday and Sunday
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high‑quality care and support to patients in line with agreed care plans and recovery‑focused approaches
  • Work collaboratively with nurses and multidisciplinary team members to support the delivery of safe and effective patient care
  • Observe, monitor and report changes in patients' physical and mental health to the appropriate clinical staff
  • Support patients with activities of daily living while promoting independence, dignity and wellbeing
  • Contribute to risk assessment and risk management processes by identifying and escalating concerns appropriately
  • Develop positive and therapeutic relationships with patients, carers and colleagues to support recovery and engagement
  • Maintain accurate records and comply with professional standards, policies and procedures at all times
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
  • Educated to, or working towards, SVQ3/SCQF Level 6 in Health and Social Care, or able to demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Completion of a health, mental health or social care programme, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of mental health issues and the principles of mental health care
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships
  • Experience of using digital systems, email and basic IT applications within a work environment
  • Understanding of the Health Care Support Worker Standards and Code of Conduct
  • Ability to work independently when required while contributing effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
