South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust

Highly Specialist CBT Therapist

The closing date is 28 July 2026

We are seeking an experienced Clinical / Counselling Psychologist (HCPC registered) or CBT therapist (BABCP accredited) who is enthusiastic and passionate about working with a range of clients (many of whom are difficult to engage) to work in our friendly service.

Please note candidates need to be qualified clinical/counselling psychologists and registered with the Health & Care Professions Council or need to be qualified Cognitive Behaviour Psychotherapists and accredited with the British Association of Behaviour and Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP).

Ideally the post holder will have experience of working within a specialist eating disorders service. However, this is not a prerequisite and we will offer in‑house training, regular supervision and a thorough induction to all new staff in order to develop knowledge and skills of working with eating disorders. The post is substantive at full‑time (1.0 wte). The post requires a minimum of 3 days working in‑person at our main hospital base Springfield (SW17 0YE
).

Main duties of the job

The primary therapy modalities are CBT and MANTRA but there is a lot of scope to incorporate other therapy models such as CFT, DBT & CRT among others. The post holder would offer psychological assessment, formulation and therapy to individuals and groups and contribute to teaching, supervision, service development projects, research and audit.

The post holder will receive clinical and professional supervision from an experienced Clinical/Counselling Psychologist/CBT therapist and will have the opportunity to provide supervision to others e.g. Band 7 clinicians, Assistant Psychologists and psychology/CBT trainees on placement.

The adult eating disorders service is part of a provider collaborative network, the South London Partnership, with the South London & Maudsley EDS. This offers a great opportunity for more integrated working across the partnership and developing new initiatives together with colleagues in the SLaM Eating Disorders Service.

Employment Terms

We offer flexible working, career development, and a variety of benefits to enable a positive and welcoming environment in which our people and their careers can thrive.

Job responsibilities

To provide a qualified clinical/counselling psychology / CBT therapy service to clients of the day unit and outpatient Adult Eating Disorders teams; providing highly specialist psychological assessment and therapy at the same time as offering advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to non‑psychologist colleagues and to other, non‑professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the teams policies and procedures.

To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service.

This is an opportunity to join a supportive and specialist multi‑disciplinary team. Day to day, the successful applicant would be providing specialist individual and group psychological interventions for adults who have sought a referral for their eating disorder related difficulties. They would also provide an active role in supporting the wider MDT staff in terms of formulation and care planning.

All members of the team typically work the core hours of 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, although there is scope for discussion of some flexible working hours. The Day Unit work is in person at Springfield Hospital. In the outpatient team we work in a hybrid manner with a mix of both online and face‑to‑face appointments. This means that some days working from home will be possible.
