Specialist Cardiac Physiologist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, skilled and experienced Clinical Physiologist to join our friendly cardiovascular team.

Our service provision covers invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures. The successful candidate will have specialist skills in Invasive Cardiology and would hold, working toward or be willing to take the BHRS (or equivalent). The department is open during the hours of 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday with the Staff working a compressed 4 day week.

You will work as an independent practitioner within a multidisciplinary department, contributing to the comprehensive range of investigative procedures. This specialised cardiac post requires a sound skills base which will be rewarded with the opportunity for further personal development and exposure to an wide range of investigations.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide treatment as part of the Medical team for Cardiac conditions and monitor the effectiveness of the treatment, initiating alterations to treatment within departmental protocols. This may occur in Clinical Physiologist-Led clinics where patients are discharged to Clinical Physiologist monitoring and advice for this particular condition.
  • Responsible for undergraduate(s) by acting as Work-Based Supervisor within the department.
  • The role includes mentoring, clinical assessments and close liaison withthe Internal Verifier for the University to ensure all aspects of BSc are completed to a satisfactory standard

Person Specification Qualifications
  • BSC in Clinical Physiology (2003 onwards) or equivalent (up to 2002) for State Registration in Cardiology, Respiratory or Vascular.
  • ILS/Defib certificate
  • Professional Exams or Completed Competency Framework
  • State Registration with RCCP
  • Teaching certificate (C&G7303/ABC or equivalent)
Experience
  • Experience of Cardiology/Respiratory or Vascular procedures gained over 18 months either post graduate (up to 2002)/State registered practice (2003 onwards)
  • Experience in training support staff & trainee Clinical Physiologists
  • Rotation through all areas of Specialism
Further Training
  • CPD
  • Training in NHS procedures, protocols and policies
  • Ability to report on own clinical work
Contractual Requirements
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Annual attendance at Trust Fire Lecture
  • Annual update on Manual Handling
Knowledge
  • Specialised knowledge and experience across a range of Cardiology procedures gained with a minimum of 18 months either post graduate (up to 2002)/State registered practice (2003 onwards) plus Professional post-graduate exams or Completed Competency Framework in a specific specialised area
  • Practical experience in Cardiology at an independent practice level including investigation, interpretation, reporting and recommending alternative investigations. To be able to identify when emergency medical intervention is required and take appropriate action
  • Evidence of professional awareness, CPD, and up-to-date knowledge through structured study, reflective practice and peer review. This includes epidemiology, pathology, diagnostic strategies, interpretation of investigations, management strategies and outcomes, contributing to clinical pathways
  • Ability to work as an autonomous Practitioner holding their own caseload
