Job Description & How to Apply Below

Location: Woodstock Road, Oxford

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to perform an exciting role supporting the delivery of the NIHR Policy Research Programme ‘Promoting Equity in Medical Device Use During Pregnancy (PROMISE)’ project together with a range of healthtech development and evaluation work across the themes of the NIHR Health Tech Research Centre (HRC) in Community Healthcare.

Within PROMISE, the postholder will lead the conclusion and write up of a number of rapid reviews of evidence for device performance during pregnancy that will be complemented by qualitative interviews, surveys and ethnographic approaches carried out by other members of the team. PROMISE has the potential to yield real world impact, as the project will define key actions for policymakers in maternal care.

The postholder’s remaining time will be spent employing mixed methods approaches in support of the projects of the different HRC themes. We expect the postholder to have opportunities to lead on projects and to explore their own research interests within the constraints and operational priorities of the HRC’s programme of work.

You will be working under the supervision of Professor Gail Hayward and Dr Philip Turner within the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences.

You will have a PhD/DPhil (or be near completion) in a relevant subject. You will have experience delivering systematic reviews and in evaluating interventions. You will have the ability to coordinate and deliver multiple projects or work streams and the ability to work independently and in teams. You will also have excellent communication skills in both spoken and written English.

To succeed in this post, you will have a keen interest in the application of mixed methods, working with clinical teams to evaluate and implement new technologies, and maternal and primary care research. You will be highly motivated and enthusiastic about working collaboratively with researchers from different disciplines and organisations.

You will be based in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, Gibson Building, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG
as your normal place of work but you may be able to agree a pattern of regular remote working with your line manager.

The position is offered full-time, although part-time working, with a minimum 0.7

FTE, will be considered. It is available for 18 months in the first instance.

Potential applicants who would like to discuss the post are welcome to contact Prof Gail Hayward or Dr Philip Turner via their PA Claire at
