Rotational Senior Occupational Therapist – Neurological Rehabilitation

There is an exciting opportunity for a full time Senior Occupational Therapist to join our Band 6 Neuro Rotation. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and hardworking to join our friendly teams and would welcome interest from full and part time applicants.

Yearly rotations are based across Royal Derby Hospital and Florence Nightingale Community Hospital, including Kings Lodge Neuro Rehab Unit, Stroke Unit, Neuro Outpatient Service, Neuro In‑Reach Team and Acute Neurology.

You will provide assessment and treatment of patients with neurological conditions, contribute to the delivery of Occupational Therapy within these teams, and support operational management and leadership of the services you are working within.

Main duties

We offer a multidisciplinary induction followed by regular supervision and appraisal. There are internal and external training opportunities to support your ongoing learning and professional development, including a Band 6 Neuro rotation peer support and education group.

Requirements

  • Experience as an occupational therapist within neurological rehabilitation
  • Good communication and highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to providing excellent patient‑centred care and multidisciplinary working

Key qualifications and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
  • State registration
  • Evidence of CPD specifically related to neurology
  • Current driving licence
  • Accredited fieldwork educator
Knowledge & Experience
  • Basic understanding of a variety of neurological conditions
  • Clinical experience in neurology and rehabilitation through multiple rotations
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its implications for services
  • Experience of supervision and appraisal
  • Experience of administering and analysing a variety of cognitive and perceptual assessments
Skills and Ability
  • Analytical and judgement skills for patient diagnosis, prognosis and treatment planning
  • Planning and organisational skills to manage own patient workload
  • Physical ability to move and handle patients safely
  • Risk assessment approach to maximise patient function and safety
  • Clinical ability to fabricate and clinically reason a range of splints and casts
  • Previous experience of teaching
  • Flexibility and adaptability in changing situations
  • Motivation, empathy and reassurance
  • Clear and concise communication for effective understanding
  • Proficiency with technology to present information at all levels
