Job SummaryThe Chaplain contributes directly to the day‑to‑day spiritual mission of the Gateway of Hope (GoH). The Chaplain ensures the GoH and its services are a place of spiritual vibrance, providing pastoral, spiritual care and support to residents, staff, volunteers and community guests. The Chaplain plays a crucial role in providing spiritual support and guidance to individuals on a pathway to wellness and recovery.
Accountabilities- Offers spiritual support to clients and families during times of loss and helps them find meaning in their spiritual beliefs.
- Offers spiritual support and counseling to staff members experiencing emotional challenges, fostering a culture of care and well‑being.
- Provides one‑on‑one spiritual counseling to clients, helping them explore and address spiritual concerns related to addiction and recovery.
- Prays with staff and clients upon request or when opportunity permits.
- Conducts visitations to hospitals and institutions as necessary.
- Collaborates with the program department to integrate spiritual components into individualized development and action plans.
- Contributes to development, maintenance and oversight of the spiritual care program for residents, staff and community guests.
- Provides emergency spiritual assistance and short‑term counseling for clients when needed.
- Assists in crisis intervention, debrief and spiritual care planning.
- Facilitates or officiates special religious services such as memorial or celebration of life services.
- Organizes and leads workshops or educational sessions on spiritual topics such as mindfulness, meditation, prayer and the connection between spirituality and mental health.
- Facilitates meaningful spiritual rituals and ceremonies to foster a sense of community and connection.
- Maintains accurate records of appointments, workshop sessions, worship services, Bible studies and client engagement.
- Plans and conducts regular worship services and Bible studies in the facility.
- Solicits feedback to assess the effectiveness of worship services and adjusts them as needed.
- Develops and maintains formal relationships with local churches and community partners to expand spiritual care programs.
- The Chaplain is a member of the GoH management team, representing the spiritual care department and participating in governance and strategic planning.
- Works with management to ensure programs align with the spiritual mission of The Salvation Army.
- May deliver training for staff upon approval of the Executive Director.
- Attends case conferences, staff meetings and client interventions to update the team on spiritual care progress.
- May participate in internal and external committees when requested and approved by the supervisor.
- Knows and follows the security procedures of GoH and The Salvation Army to ensure safety and confidentiality.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Leads and develops the EDS services program for the Langley area.
- Serves as incident commander, first on site, when emergency disaster services are required.
- Maintains written records and logs of activities, including activity reports and statistical information.
- Keeps accurate client case notes respecting confidentiality and communicating limits of confidentiality.
- Manages the spiritual care budget and resources effectively.
- Develops, implements and maintains the Spiritual and Religious Care Policies and Procedures Manual and the Spiritual Care Program Plan in accordance with TSA Accreditation standards.
