Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.

The Manager of Sans Souci is currently seeking a temporary full-time Occupational Therapist. The purpose of the position is to plan, implement, evaluate and monitor Occupational Therapy services for an assigned caseload of patients as a member of an interprofessional team at Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care and to provide training, educational and consultative services to staff, students, community and educational institutions.

Please Note:

This position offers a hybrid work environment consisting of in-office and remote work. Office location is 500 Church St, Penetanguishene, ON.

Assess the level of functional independence and occupational performance issues of patients through interviews, observations, and through the use of standardized/non-standardized assessments tools utilizing a best practice process.

Collaborat e with patients and their families to determine appropriate treatment goals and objectives, as well as contributing to collaborative treatment plans, utilizing Occupational Therapy best practice initiatives. Ensure positive engagement and collaboration with patients and their families with respect to the care and treatment offered through occupational therapy.

Implement Occupational Therapy interventions on an individual basis and/or in group settings including modification and/or termination of treatment plans when appropriate.

Document assessment results, evaluations, patient progress, clinical summaries, etc. according to College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) and Waypoint standards and contributing to and collaborating within an interprofessional team to reach consensus decisions.

Provid e consultative and educational services including seminars and workshops for other disciplines within the hospital, community and educational institutions and providing supervision/training for Occupational Therapy students as required; engaging in regular professional development, self assessment and appraisal of practice. Attending professional and clinical Occupational Therapy events .

Maintain Occupational Therapy equipment in safe working order and more specifically routinely check equipment, and facilitate repairs as required; encourage the team and patients to engage in safe practices .

Provide recommendations to the Director regarding budget requirements and manage allotted budget within established guidelines and recommending acquisition of equipment and supplies.

Assist in continuous quality improvement and evaluation of the interprofessional team; and participating in continuous development of Occupational Therapy services. services/partnerships by recommending changes to meet determined needs, attending to management information system requirements; participating in the development of unit programs, policies and taking a leadership role in evaluating, researching, planning and implementing clinical Occupational Therapy services for individuals with mental health issues.

Assist in research and collection, analysis and preparation of pertinent data for periodic and regular reports and where permitted formulating, collecting and analyzing clinical research data.

REQUIREMENTS/

QUALIFICATIONS:

Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario in good standing is required

Preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.

Recent experience working within a mental health facility, or community services, including familiarity with the trauma-informed care and recovery philosophy is preferred.

Experience developing and leading therapeutic groups and providing individual therapies using CBT or DBT is preferred.
