We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and dependable individual to join our established ophthalmology practice in Charlottetown, PE, as a Medical Receptionist.
As the first point of contact for our patients, this role is essential to creating a welcoming and professional experience while providing administrative support to our physicians and clinical team. The ideal candidate is personable, adaptable, and able to remain calm and organized in a busy, fast-paced environment. Strong time management skills, sound judgment, and the ability to prioritize competing tasks are essential.
Responsibilities- Welcome patients and visitors with professionalism and compassion.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for patients and general inquiries by telephone, email, and in person.
- Schedule and coordinate patient appointments.
- Receive, screen, and prioritize telephone calls, emails, and other communications, responding appropriately or directing inquiries to the appropriate team member.
- Receive, sort, and prioritize incoming mail and correspondence.
- Prepare letters, reports, emails, and other documents involving medical terminology.
- Create invoices, process payments, and perform other administrative financial tasks.
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records using Accuro EMR.
- Coordinate communication with physicians, healthcare professionals, hospitals, and other organizations to facilitate ongoing patient care.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and exercise discretion in accordance with privacy legislation and professional standards.
- Perform other administrative duties as required to support the efficient operation of the practice.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Successful completion of Grade 12.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word and Google Drive.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with a genuine commitment to providing exceptional patient care.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Working knowledge of standard office equipment and office procedures.
- A reliable work history and strong attendance record.
While all applications will be considered, preference will be given to candidates with:
- Completion of a Medical Secretary or Medical Office Administration program.
- Previous experience working as a medical receptionist or medical office administrator.
- Experience working in ophthalmology, optometry, or another eye care setting.
- Experience using electronic medical record (EMR) systems, particularly Accuro.

Working Conditions- 40 hours a week
