Moving and Handling Practitioner

Community-based role across the North of England, with work from home when not on client visits. Travel will be required within an agreed geographical area, depending on the applicant’s home location, availability and experience.

Full-time or part-time considered. Minimum 3 days per week.

£31,500–£45,000

FTE,depending on experience and working hours.

We work closely with clients, families, case managers, care teams, deputies, solicitors andMDTsto provide practical, clinically reasoned and person-centred support.

The Moving and Handling Practitioner will provide specialist assessment, advice, training and recommendations for individuals with complex moving and handling needs.

The role involves community-based assessments, risk identification, management planning, training and support for families, care teams and professionals.

There may also be the option to hold a small occupational therapy caseload alongside the moving and handling role, depending on experience and service need.

Induction, supervision and ongoing clinical support will be provided.

This role would suit someone with strong experience in neurological and neurodevelopmental practice, complex disability and community-based moving and handling support.

The post holder will be responsible for:

• Completing specialist moving and handling assessments in community settings.
• Assessing children and adults with complex neurological, neurodevelopmental and physical needs.
• Identifying risks and providing clinically reasoned recommendations.
• Developing moving and handling risk assessments and management plans.
• Recommending equipment, techniques, environmental changes and support strategies.
• Delivering training to families, care teams and professionals.
• Supporting safe implementation of moving and handling plans.
• Working collaboratively with clients, families, case managers, care teams and MDTs.
• Liaising with deputies, solicitors and other professionals where required.
• Preparing clear, accurate and professional documentation.
• Managing a community-based caseload and planning appointments effectively.
• Contributing to clinical governance, CPD and reflective practice.

• Degree/diploma in Occupational Therapy;
  Band 6/7 or equivalent experience welcome.
• Current HCPC registration and RCOT membership.
• At least 5 years’ experience within specialist neurological practice.
• Experience supporting children and adults with neurological and/or neurodevelopmental conditions.
• Experience completing moving and handling assessments, risk management plans and training.
• Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to complete one.
• Full driving licence and access to a car for business use.
• Good IT skills appropriate to the role.

• Experience working with individuals with acquired brain injury.
• Experience working in community settings.
• Experience liaising with case managers, deputies, solicitors and MDTs.
• Experience completing complex equipment recommendations.
• At least 2 years’ experience within medico-legal, litigation or case management settings.
• Experience supporting both children and adults in home, school or community environments.
