The role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Paediatric Allergy Service as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.

This post provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced paediatric nurse to develop their skills, knowledge and expertise in allergy through education, training and clinical practice. Following a period of structured, competency-based training, the successful candidate will work collaboratively and autonomously within the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality, family-centred and evidence-based allergy care.

The Paediatric Allergy Service provides holistic support to children, young people and their families throughout investigation, diagnosis and treatment. The service covers a wide range of allergy conditions including food allergies, drug allergies and immunotherapy, with a strong focus on education, support and self-management.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: 30 hours per week (0.83 WTE)
Location: Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow
Work Pattern: 4 days across Monday to Friday to meet the needs of the service.

Key responsibilities:

You will work as part of the Paediatric Allergy multidisciplinary team to deliver specialist allergy care to children and their families. Responsibilities include supporting the assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment of patients with allergic conditions, providing education and training to patients, families and healthcare professionals, and promoting self-management of allergy conditions.

Assist in the planning, development and delivery of paediatric allergy services, contributing to high-quality, evidence-based care. The role also involves developing and maintaining clinical and educational links across primary, secondary and tertiary care settings, as well as supporting allergy education and awareness within schools and nurseries. Working both collaboratively and autonomously, you will contribute to service development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
Significant post-registration paediatric nursing experience
Evidence of ongoing professional development
Willingness to undertake structured, competency-based allergy training
Relevant allergy qualification or specialist training would be advantageous
Experience working within a paediatric healthcare setting
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Knowledge of family-centred care principles
Interest in developing specialist knowledge and skills in paediatric allergy
Experience of patient and family education
Ability to support service development and quality improvement initiatives
Strong organisational and time management skills
