Southern Lights are recruiting for an established and growing healthcare consumables supplier, providing specialist products used across sterile services, endoscopy and theatre environments within NHS and private healthcare organisations. We are looking for an experienced Consumables Commercial Manager to take responsibility for a key area of the business, combining commercial strategy, tender and framework management, supplier and customer negotiations, key account development and leadership of an established account management team.

This is a senior and varied position and would suit someone who already has strong experience within healthcare consumables or medical supplies and understands how products are sold and supplied into NHS Trusts, private hospital groups and other healthcare organisations. The role You will take responsibility for a broad range of commercial activity across the consumables business, including managing major customer and supplier relationships, tender submissions, pricing agreements and longer-term supply arrangements.

A significant part of the position will involve healthcare procurement and tendering, including NHS frameworks, local Trust opportunities and private healthcare agreements. You will work closely with suppliers to negotiate commercial terms and product costs, while also managing customer pricing and supporting the annual pricing review process. The position will also involve identifying opportunities to secure and grow existing accounts through longer-term product supply agreements, as well as assessing new products and opportunities to expand the existing consumables portfolio.

Alongside the commercial responsibilities, you will manage and support an established team of three Consumables Account Managers and assist with the recruitment and development of an additional team member as the business continues to grow. Key responsibilities Managing healthcare consumables tenders, frameworks and pricing agreements across NHS and private healthcare customers Developing relationships with hospital procurement teams and other key commercial stakeholders Negotiating supplier costs, customer pricing and commercial agreements Securing longer-term and multi-year product supply agreements with customers Supporting and developing an established Consumables Account Management team Helping recruit and onboard additional members of the commercial team Evaluating new consumable products and opportunities to broaden the existing portfolio Working closely with senior management on commercial strategy and growth Supporting Account Managers with customers where required Travelling to customer sites across the UK and Ireland when appropriate Travel will form part of the position, although this is not a role with a heavily prescribed travel schedule the successful candidate will have considerable autonomy to manage customer visits and support the Account Management team as required.

What we are looking for We are particularly interested in speaking with people who already have experience within the healthcare consumables or medical supply industry.

Experience of consumable products supplied into sterile services, endoscopy and theatre environments would be particularly relevant. You should ideally have:
Strong healthcare commercial, sales or account management experience Knowledge of healthcare consumables and associated products Experience working with NHS procurement, tenders and frameworks Understanding of private healthcare procurement and commercial agreements Strong commercial negotiation and pricing experience Experience developing relationships with hospital procurement teams Knowledge of relevant healthcare standards, guidelines and regulatory requirements Previous people management or team leadership experience Strong supplier and customer relationship management skills The ability to manage commercial projects from initial opportunity through to agreement Existing relationships within NHS Trusts, private hospital groups or the wider healthcare consumables market would be particularly useful.

Location and working pattern The position is based in the Bristol / South Gloucestershire area. During the initial induction and training period, you will be expected to work from the office Monday to Friday. Once fully trained and working independently, the normal working pattern will be three days per week in the office, with the option to work from home for the remaining two days, subject to business requirements.

The role covers customers nationally across the UK and Ireland, with customer visits organised according to business requirements. Package A competitive salary will be offered depending on experience, alongside:
