The role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for three Generic Support Workers (Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy) to join the Older People’s Allied Health Professional (AHP) Service within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Working alongside Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, you will play a vital role in supporting older people to maximise their independence, achieve their rehabilitation goals and return home safely. You will work across a range of older adult services, including acute assessment, rehabilitation and discharge planning environments, contributing to high‑quality, person‑centred care.

You will receive comprehensive training, supervision and support to develop your skills and confidence while working within a friendly, supportive and experienced multidisciplinary team.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
  • These posts are permanent.
  • These posts are based across Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Stobhill Hospital. There are three posts available, two full‑time posts working 36 hours per week and one part‑time post working 28.8 hours per week.
  • The work pattern is 5 days over 7.
  • Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part‑time hours.
Key responsibilities:

Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, you will support Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists in delivering assessment, rehabilitation and discharge planning for older adults. You will assist patients to achieve their rehabilitation goals, maximise their independence and support safe discharge home where appropriate.

You will develop positive therapeutic relationships with patients, families and colleagues, deliver delegated treatment programmes, and contribute to high‑quality, person‑centred care across acute and rehabilitation settings. You will also participate in training and development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
  • Experience working in a health or social care setting.
  • A genuine interest in supporting older people to achieve their rehabilitation goals and maximise their independence.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop positive therapeutic relationships with patients, families and colleagues.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Confidence to work independently within delegated treatment programmes.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Commitment to delivering high‑quality, person‑centred care.
