How you'll make a difference

By leading and supporting a team of Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs), you will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of safe, timely and high-quality mental health services for people at some of the most vulnerable and critical points in their lives.

Providing visible leadership, professional oversight and expert guidance, you will support the team to manage complex risks, make sound decisions and deliver effective interventions that promote safety, recovery and wellbeing. You will foster strong partnership working to ensure individuals receive co-ordinated, person centred support. Through your leadership, you will help achieve positive outcomes while ensuring that legal responsibilities, best practice and organisational priorities are consistently upheld.

What you will be doing
  • You will lead, supervise and motivate the team, identifying and addressing development needs to maintain a highly competent, creative and participative culture.
  • Providing specialist advice and guidance, you will interpret and apply relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice, ensuring policies are implemented consistently and services operate effectively.
  • You will have operational oversight of the AMHP service, including data gathering, co-ordinating the rota and working closely with administrative colleagues to ensure the smooth and effective running of the service.
  • Using your expertise, you will ensure services are delivered in line with safeguarding procedures, while managing quality and performance to meet service requirements and key performance measures.
  • As a key member of the management team, you will contribute to service planning and development, helping to shape and implement new initiatives, policies and systems that enhance service delivery, improve outcomes and support organisational priorities.
  • Working collaboratively with partners, you will provide specialist expertise, promote best practice, and co-ordinate reports and meetings to support the efficient use of resources and budgets.
  • You will oversee and participate in the teams responsibilities relating to social supervision.
What we need from you
  • It is essential that you hold a relevant professional qualification, such as a social work degree, diploma or equivalent qualification, and are registered with Social Work England.
  • We are looking for someone who is a AMHP qualified, with significant experience within an AMHP role. You will also bring experience within a social care setting, including managing complex cases and managing risk effectively.
  • You will have evidence of on-going Continuous Professional Development (CPD), alongside a thorough knowledge of current legislation and practice relating to mental health and social care, including the Care Act and the Mental Capacity Act.
  • Drawing on your experience of supporting casework processes and supervising teams, you will be able to organise, allocate and prioritise tasks to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of work. Overseeing casework standards and performance, you will manage resources and workloads effectively to drive the achievement of team objectives.
  • Given the nature of this work, you will have excellent IT, verbal and written communication skills, enabling you to engage effectively with others and build positive working relationships.
What you need to know
  • You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel.
  • Business insurance will need to be added to your insurance policy and you can claim back mileage expenses.
  • Please note that due to the nature of this role, it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained.
  • This role is hybrid, predominantly you will be required to work in the office orwithin the community, with occasional days working at home.
