Job overviewAn exciting full-time opportunity has arisen to join our clinically-focussed team, based at West Heath Hospital, for a 12 month period to cover maternity leave for the current postholder.
As a clinical pharmacist Pharmacist you will specialise in Elderly Care, joining our small, friendly team of Pharmacists and Technicians providing medicines optimisation support and advice to our adult in-patient wards. We endeavour to provide excellent clinical input on the wards, working efficiently as part of the wider clinical team where good working relationships are key.
There will be opportunities to use your prescribing skills and be involved in Consultant-led ward rounds as appropriate.
Newly qualified candidates will be considered for this role, where you will be encouraged to develop your clinical and prescribing skills.
We are looking for a friendly, dedicated and motivated Pharmacist to join us and help shape quality improvements for our well-respected department.
Main duties of the jobWorking alongside clinical colleagues you will be integrated into the ward teams, attending multidisciplinary meetings and Consultant-led ward rounds to support the pharmaceutical needs of patients under your care.
You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to prioritise your time efficiently and have the ability to show initiative as well as work under pressure. You will show attention to detail and accuracy in your work.
Daily duties will involve working on the wards reviewing prescriptions as well as dispensary duties. We are a small team and contributing to dispensing, checking and clinical work will be expected.

This is a 12 month post to cover maternity leave and will be clinically focussed with ward and dispensary-based duties.
Person specification- Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Pre-registration training and experience or equivalent
- Experience of hospital Pharmacy, pre or post registration
- Experience of working in the NHS
- Good general pharmaceutical and clinical knowledge and skills, obtained through completion of degree course and pre-registration year
- Able to negotiate with healthcare staff, patients and relatives to achieve outcomes that enhance patient care
- Able to communicate complex information to other professionals and patients at all levels of the multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Good critical appraisal skills for reviewing drug charts/ prescriptions and acting on accordingly
- Able to utilise a computer and work with common application software, e.g. Microsoft Office
- Audit skills
- Self-directed approach to learning
- Experience of involvement and communication with patients and carers
- Good organisation and time management skills, meeting set targets and deadlines
- Ability to prioritise effectively, working under pressure when needed
- Confident and shows effective interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Ability to travel across sites in BCHC
- Demonstrates commitment to the promotion of equal opportunities
- Flexibility to work/cover other sites to support the demands of the service
