Specialist Occupational Therapist - Older peoples Service

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic Older People’s Service within the North Sector. The successful candidate will be primarily based within the Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre (ARC) and rehabilitation ward at Stobhill Ambulatory Care Hospital (ACH), with opportunities to provide support across other areas of the service as required. You will work across a range of settings, including acute wards at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and rehabilitation wards within the Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre, providing assessment, treatment planning, rehabilitation and complex discharge planning for older adults, predominantly aged 75 years and over.

Patients frequently present with complex conditions including frailty, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, falls and multiple long-term conditions. You will also contribute to the ongoing development of frailty services following the Healthcare Improvement Scotland Focus on Frailty Programme and support service improvement initiatives, clinical governance and the continuous development of Occupational Therapy services.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

• This post is permanent.
• This is a part-time post working 28.8 hours per week on a 4 days over 7 basis.
• The primary base for this role is the Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre (ARC), Stobhill Ambulatory Care Hospital, 133 Balornock Road, Glasgow, G21 3UW
  , although you may be required to provide support across other areas within the Older People’s Service.

You will assess, plan and deliver specialist Occupational Therapy interventions for older adults with complex physical, cognitive and rehabilitation needs. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support rehabilitation, facilitate complex discharge planning and promote independence for older people.

You will contribute to the evaluation and ongoing development of the Occupational Therapy service, supporting clinical governance, service improvement, clinical effectiveness initiatives and the implementation of national policies and healthcare priorities. You will also lead and contribute to departmental and multidisciplinary projects aimed at continuously improving patient care and outcomes.

• Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy.
• Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• Holds, or is willing to work towards, a recognised Practice Education Qualification.
• Up-to-date mandatory and statutory training, including Fire Safety and Moving & Handling.
• Demonstrable specialist knowledge and skills in Occupational Therapy within Older People’s Services, gained through relevant postgraduate training, specialist courses and clinical experience.
• Significant experience of working within Older People’s Services and as part of multidisciplinary and/or multi-agency teams.
• Specialist interest in the assessment, rehabilitation and discharge planning of older adults.
• Excellent communication, team-working and organisational skills, with the ability to manage a complex and varied caseload.
