Are you a passionate Mental Health Nurse who believes in the power of therapeutic activity to support recovery, wellbeing and independence? NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a Recreational Nurse Therapist to join our dedicated Recreational Therapy team. This unique and rewarding role offers the opportunity to work with individuals experiencing complex mental health difficulties across inpatient and community settings, using innovative and person-centred therapeutic interventions to improve quality of life.

You will play a key role in supporting recovery, building confidence and reducing social isolation while working collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues and partner agencies. All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
  • Part-time (21.6 hours per week)
  • Permanent
  • You will be based at Leverndale Hospital
  • Working Pattern:
    Between Monday and Friday

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours.

Key responsibilities:
  • Manage a specialist caseload of individuals with complex mental health needs across inpatient and community settings
  • Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate therapeutic interventions that promote recovery, independence and wellbeing
  • Design, coordinate and facilitate a wide range of therapeutic and recreational activities tailored to individual and group needs
  • Work collaboratively with service users, carers, multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to develop effective care plans
  • Provide leadership, supervision and support to junior staff, students and colleagues within the service
  • Promote health improvement, social inclusion and positive lifestyle choices through therapeutic activity programmes
  • Contribute to service development, audit, research activities and quality improvement initiatives within Recreational Therapy
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
  • Registered Nurse with relevant and significant experience within mental health services
  • Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge gained through experience
  • Extensive knowledge of therapeutic interventions and recovery-focused approaches within mental health care
  • Highly developed communication, assessment, observation and risk management skills
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and commitment to lifelong learning within the speciality
  • Ability to lead, motivate, supervise and support colleagues while working autonomously when required
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving and computer skills with the ability to contribute to research, audit and service development activities
