The Role

We are seeking a Band 5 Rehabilitation Technician to join the Paediatric Orthotic Service based at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of the Paediatric Orthotic and Short Term Loan Wheelchair Service. Applications are welcomed from experienced candidates as well as trainees who can demonstrate practical and technical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and an interest or previous experience in orthotics or a similar technical environment.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Shift Pattern - 07:30-17:30 or 08:30-16:30, Monday
- Friday

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide skilled technical expertise in the manufacture of a comprehensive range of highly specialist Paediatric Orthotic Devices.
  • Work closely with Paediatric Orthotists to support patients with varied and highly complex needs.
  • Manufacture, fabricate, maintain and repair orthoses to agreed quality standards and service timescales.
  • Assess, maintain, adapt and supply short-term loan wheelchairs within Glasgow's Children’s Hospital.
  • Manage orthotic componentry and maintain stock control systems.
  • Order materials and components as required.
  • Contribute effectively to team working, service development and innovation.
  • Support the delivery of a high-quality paediatric orthotic and wheelchair service.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job Essential Requirements
  • Appropriate HNC qualification or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • Technical knowledge and practical skills relevant to orthotics, rehabilitation engineering, or a related environment.
  • Ability to provide specialist technical support and expertise.
  • Strong organisational and teamwork skills.
For Trainee Applicants
  • Demonstrable practical and technical aptitude.
  • Ability and willingness to learn specialist orthotic manufacturing skills.
  • Interest in orthotics or experience in a similar technical field.
Additional Requirements
  • PVG certification for working with children and vulnerable groups is required.
