Learning Disability Nurse - Specialist Learning Disability Services

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 5 Registered Learning Disability Nurses to join the Specialist Learning Disability Inpatient Nursing Team within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. The Specialist Learning Disability Service provides assessment and treatment inpatient services to people with a learning disability who experience mental ill health and/or associated challenging behaviour or complex needs.

The role will support people to achieve positive health outcomes through specialist therapeutic interventions. You will provide evidence-based, high-quality nursing care within a multidisciplinary framework, supporting people with learning disabilities who may present with mental health problems, challenging behaviour and/or additional complex needs, including the development of individual Positive Behavioural Support Plans.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

• The working pattern will be in line with the requirements of the inpatient service.
• The post is based at Claythorn House, Gartnaval General Hospital within the Specialist Learning Disability Inpatient Nursing Service, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

You will have direct responsibility as a Named or Associate Nurse for a defined client group, facilitating the assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation of care through to discharge. You will provide compassionate and professional nursing care with minimal supervision and work collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team.

The role will also include taking charge of the ward, or an equivalent sphere of nursing practice, in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse/Charge Nurse. You will contribute to the development and implementation of individual Positive Behavioural Support Plans and provide specialist therapeutic interventions to support positive health outcomes for people with learning disabilities and complex needs.

• RNLD or RMN with relevant experience essential.
• Previous experience of working with people who have learning disabilities and mental health issues essential.
• Knowledge and understanding of mental health issues, challenging behaviour and complex needs.
• Knowledge of evidence-based nursing practice.
• Understanding of assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
• Knowledge of Positive Behavioural Support approaches.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to work independently and professionally with minimal supervision.
• Ability to undertake the role of Named or Associate Nurse for a defined client group.
• Ability to take charge of the ward or equivalent area of nursing practice when required.
