Clinical Research Technician (TERM LIMITED)

This position may independently provide study coordination for simple and moderately complex clinical research studies. As a member of a coordination team, this position may help support a portfolio of projects with varying levels of complexity. Mastery of all job duties from the CRC-Technician position on the Michigan Medicine CRC Career Ladder is required.

The Clinical Research Technician supports faculty in conducting clinical research studies. This role supports clinical research within the section of vascular surgery.

8. Communications and Teamwork Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist faculty with day-to-day execution of clinical research studies in accordance with protocol requirements and institutional policies.
  • Prepare, calibrate, and maintain study equipment and materials as needed; document preparation and use per study and regulatory standards.
  • Review the clinic schedule weekly to identify upcoming cases involving participants who may meet protocol requirements or consent to research trials
  • Coordinate with clinical teams to confirm timing and logistics study-related activities.
  • Consent patients for research studies as delegated and trained, using IRB-approved materials and following human subjects protections and documentation requirements.
  • Assist in identifying and selecting patients for potential research participation, including basic chart review/screening activities as permitted by protocol and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate study documentation (e.g., logs, source documentation support, deviations) and report issues to the study team promptly.
  • Participate in study meetings and communicate clearly with investigators, coordinators, clinical staff, and laboratory personnel to support protocol adherence.
Required Qualifications *
  • Associate Degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is necessary
  • An advanced degree in health-related areas such as:
    Health Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Public Health, Health Care Administration, Clinical Research Administration, Social Work, Psychology, Epidemiology, Foreign MD OR
  • Minimum of 3 years of human subject experience (clinical, lab or health regulations) such as related to patient care, related community health and wellness, or related clinical information, and research
  • Ability to follow written protocols precisely and maintain detailed, accurate records.
  • Comfort working in patient-care environments, including the operating room, and handling biological specimens using appropriate safety practices.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and respond to time-sensitive requests.
Desired Qualifications*
  • Prior clinical research experience (e.g., Technician study support, patient screening).
  • Training/experience in consenting participants, human subjects research protection, and/or GCP (Good Clinical Practice).
  • Familiarity with IRB requirements, EMR-based screening workflows, and specimen tracking systems.

Additional Information

Supervision Received: This position receives direct supervision and reports directly to the Vascular Surgery Administrative Director.

Term Limited Position: This position is term-limited for 1 year with the possibility of renewal based on need and available funding. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate and will not be eligible for Reduction in Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for…
