We are a multi-site specialist group in the western suburbs. We are looking for a part-time respiratory/sleep scientist.
About the roleThe role will include performing lung function tests and setting patients up with Home Based Sleep Studies. Further duties will include providing clinical support to medical specialists and our patients. This will include reviewing pathology and physiology results, educating patients with asthma and COPD on inhaler therapy, establishing asthma and COPD action plans, assisting patients with CPAP devices and reviewing patients with urgent care needs.
Training will be provided to ensure competency in completing these duties. This role will be initially 2 days per week with opportunities to increase to 3 days per week within 12 months. We are located at multiple sites in the western suburbs and can be flexible with primary working location.
- Conducting and performing respiratory function tests, including spirometry, lung volume measurements, and diffusion capacity assessments
- Operating and maintaining sleep diagnostic equipment, including polysomnography (PSG) systems and portable sleep monitors
- Preparing patients for diagnostic procedures and ensuring their comfort and understanding throughout testing
- Recording, analysing and interpreting respiratory and sleep study data in accordance with established protocols
- Maintaining accurate patient records and documentation of all test results and observations
- Ensuring all equipment is calibrated, maintained and functioning optimally
- Adhering to quality assurance standards and participating in ongoing quality control procedures
- Communicating findings to respiratory physicians and sleep medicine specialists to support clinical decision-making
- Supporting patients with education regarding their respiratory conditions and sleep health
- Formal qualification in respiratory/sleep science, pulmonary function technology, or equivalent accredited training
- Demonstrable experience in conducting respiratory function tests and sleep studies
- Strong knowledge of respiratory physiology, pathophysiology, and sleep medicine principles
- Proficiency in operating diagnostic respiratory and sleep monitoring equipment
- Fitting SOMTE Home Based Sleep Studies
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with patients, physicians and multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to work independently whilst collaborating effectively within a team environment
- Experience with electronic health records and clinical data management systems is advantageous
