Heart and Lung Health
London, W10 (with travel to community venues and occasional home working)
About Us
We’re Open Age, the charity empowering all older people in London to stay active, stay curious and stay connected.
We believe feeling supported as part of a community is the key to living well for longer – isolation can have a devastating impact on older people, affecting their mental and physical health. Right now, 60% of our members live alone.
But they are not alone.
Open Age is creating an inclusive community for everyone to take part in enjoyable activities – from art to foreign languages, yoga to walking football – whoever they are and however they choose.
No one else does what we do. For over 30 years, our unique ‘meet, move, learn’ formula has been supporting members to get out of their homes and into our community. Our goal is to empower all older Londoners to find their purpose and their people, helping them get more out of life at every age.
We are now looking for a Senior Clinical Exercise Specialist:
Heart and Lung Health to join us on a part-time basis, working 28 hours per week over four days, for a fixed-term contract until March 2029, with the possibility of extension subject to funding.
The Benefits
- Salary of £31,000 per annum (pro rata)
- 25 days’ annual leave (pro rata) plus bank holidays
- An additional day off for your birthday
- Pension scheme with a 3% employer contribution
- Cycle to Work Scheme
- Employee Assistance Programme
This is a fantastic opportunity for an exercise professional with experience supporting older adults in a community setting with an interest/expertise in chronic respiratory or cardiovascular disease, to join our dedicated charity on a part-time basis, working four days per week.
You'll have the chance to begin or continue your specialist career, broadening your practical experience and strengthening your professional skills. Working alongside a passionate and enthusiastic team, you'll make a significant contribution to a newly funded programme that supports older people to lead healthier, more active and independent lives.
What's more, you'll enjoy a fantastic range of benefits designed to support your wellbeing and work-life balance, alongside part-time hours worked over four days that enable you to pursue a rewarding career whilst making time for your commitments outside work.
The Role
As our Senior Clinical Exercise Specialist, you will co-ordinate and deliver our Health Works programme.
Health Works is a community-based programme that supports Westminster residents to live healthier lives through local activities and support. The programme will offer a mix of healthy lifestyle activities, talks and workshops, with a particular focus on working with people from ethnically diverse and Global Majority backgrounds.
Specifically, you’ll co-ordinate and deliver healthy lifestyle activities including exercise classes and health education sessions. You'll deliver approximately three exercise classes per week to help participants reduce their risk of heart and lung conditions.
You'll assess individual exercise capabilities and adapt sessions to meet participants' needs, as well as delivering health education sessions and conducting Health Works check-ins. These will support participants to set realistic health goals, monitor their progress and access relevant community and health services.
Additionally, you will:
- Work with Marylebone Bangladesh Society and other partners to deliver the Health Works programme
- Organise community outreach, taster sessions and health and wellbeing events
- Manage participant referrals, bookings and programme documentation
- Monitor attendance, evaluate outcomes and prepare reports
