Support Person for 16-Year-Old with Mild Autism and Development Disorder
We are a conservative, Christian, homeschool family who is looking for someone to come alongside our
16-year-old son, hang out with him, be a positive influence, and help him make good choices. It would
be nice to have someone that could take him out into the community and spend time with him.
Providing guidance and support when he is at home working on school work or chores would also be
helpful. Eventually we're hoping you might be able to have a very part-time job if you had someone to
help him do that job.
We’re looking for someone with the character, patience, and compassion to work with someone who
has mild autism and a developmental disorder, and who has had behavior regulation challenges with
family members, but not others. He is receiving support for emotional regulation and making good
progress. He is very high functioning, with an IQ of 102, and fully self-sufficient with hygiene, dressing,
etc. Most people who interact with him have no idea he is on the spectrum and consider him a nice kid.
Support person would not need to provide any physical care, only emotional and mental support. Calvin
students who are studying psychology or social work would be able to use this employment as career
related experience on their resume.
This position pays approximately $18 per hour, plus mileage when our son is in your vehicle.
Hours and schedule are very flexible. Ultimately, we'd like for him to receive about 15 hours of support a
week, but those hours don't have to be met by one person. For the right person, hours could be
expanded.
Our family is located in Ada, Michigan.
