Bank Prison Services Pharmacy Technician - HMP

A bank pharmacy technician post with Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust's prison healthcare service at HMP Portland, filled on a flexible basis to build a pool of workers. The work covers dispensing prescriptions and stock items, administering medicines to prisoners, reconciling medicines on admission and keeping dispensary stock in order. The setting is offender healthcare, with medicines administration covered on a seven-day rota and the post supervising dispensary assistants.

Fit depends on GPhC pharmacy technician registration and passing National Security Vetting.

• Provide medicines management and optimisation services to the prison, with pharmacist support
• Administer medicines against valid prescriptions and check they are taken correctly
• Advise patients on the appropriate use of medicines and promote healthy lifestyles
• Dispense prescriptions and stock items
• Supervise assistants when working in the dispensary
• Carry out stock control, including top-ups, checking expiry dates and storage, and reporting deficiencies to the prison pharmacist
• Provide medicines administration at scheduled times as part of a seven-day rota
• Undertake medicines reconciliation for prisoners admitted to the prison
• Act as an accredited checking technician providing final dispensing checks
• Maintain high standards in the dispensary, clinics and on the wings, following all SOPs
• Assist the Senior Prisons Technician to write, update and monitor medicines optimisation SOPs

• NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services or equivalent

• GPhC registration as a pharmacy technician

• Previous experience of working in a pharmacy

• Good working knowledge of a set of SOPs
• Use of, or willingness to learn, Pharmacy Manager/JAC and Microsoft packages

• Willingness to undergo National Security Vetting
• Proof of right to work in the UK, with a Home Office share code for non-UK passport holders
• Photographic proof of  proof of address
• Five years' address history, with police or overseas conduct certificates where required

• Previous prison or mental health pharmacy experience

• Support with qualifications and training, and progression through bands
