SAP HR Lead / SAP HCM Lead (Defence & Security)

Next Ventures are currently executing a search for a SAP HCM Lead with (Defence & Security) industry skills and exposure. Client may also be open to consultants with deep public sector experience.

Location

Remote working with one onsite visit per month (maximum). Start ASAP – February or March – if SC cleared can start immediate.

Clearance

SC or DV Clearance (or eligibility to obtain), depending on programme needs. (EU/UK passport holders)

Contract

12‑month contracts + extension (3‑year programme). EU passport holders are preferred, willing to travel once per month in EUR and willing to do security clearance process.

Role Purpose

The SAP HR Lead will oversee the design, delivery, and optimisation of SAP HCM/HR solutions across a defence and security organisation. This role ensures HR processes are aligned to strategic, regulatory, and operational requirements, with particular focus on secure environments, controlled data handling, and workforce planning for complex defence programmes.

Key Responsibilities Solution Leadership
  • Lead the SAP HR/HCM solution design across modules such as Personnel Administration (PA), Organizational Management (OM), Time Management (PT), Payroll, Talent Management, and ESS/MSS.
  • Serve as the primary HR functional authority for SAP within a secure programme environment.
  • Develop and maintain HR process models, ensuring alignment with MOD or defence‑sector compliance standards.
Project & Programme Delivery
  • Lead end‑to‑end configuration and deployment activities for SAP HR work streams.
  • Manage and coordinate functional teams, external vendors, and technical specialists.
  • Own functional documentation: requirements, blueprints, configuration workbooks, test scripts, and training materials.
  • Support integration with other SAP modules (FI/CO, MM, Success Factors, Security & GRC).
  • Ensure all HR system changes adhere to secure change‑control processes and audit requirements.
Stakeholder Management
  • Act as the key liaison between HR business owners, programme leadership, and technical delivery teams.
  • Run workshops with senior stakeholders to capture requirements and validate solutions.
  • Communicate risks, issues, and mitigation plans effectively.
Compliance & Security
  • Ensure SAP HR configuration and processes meet defence security protocols, GDPR, and data‑handling standards.
  • Oversee role‑based access controls in collaboration with SAP Security teams.
  • Support audit reviews and produce evidence of compliance as required.
Operational Support
  • Provide expert‑level guidance during hyper‑care and post‑go‑live operations.
  • Lead root‑cause analysis for HR‑related incidents and implement corrective actions.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 7+ years SAP HR/HCM functional experience, including full life‑cycle implementations.
  • Strong configuration skills across core SAP HR modules (PA/OM, Time, Payroll, ESS/MSS).
  • Experience working on defence, security, MOD ETC., or other regulated/government programmes.
  • Proven ability to lead functional teams within large‑scale transformations.
  • Strong understanding of HR processes, policies, and regulatory environments.
  • Experience with integration (SAP or non‑SAP), data migration, and testing cycles.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including working with senior military/civil service leaders.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience with SAP Success Factors or hybrid HR landscapes.
  • Knowledge of HR workflows, Joint Personnel Administration (JPA), or defence workforce management.
  • Familiarity with SAP GRC, IDM, and security role design principles.
  • Prior work within SC/DV‑cleared environments.
Qualifications
  • Degree in HR, IT, Business, or related field (preferred).
  • SAP HCM certifications (advantageous).
  • Project management certifications (Prince2, PMP, Agile) beneficial.
