Overview
Human Resources Assistant
Penn State Human Resources is seeking a self-motivated, positive, customer service oriented, and quality conscious individual to join their team as a Human Resources Assistant. In this role, you will be embedded in The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State, supporting human resources operations and leading a team of administrative staff, students, and part-time employees.
ARL is an integral part of one of the leading research universities in the nation and serves as a University Center of Excellence in Defense science, systems, and technologies with a focus in naval missions and related areas. As a DoD-designated, U.S. Navy UARC (University Affiliated Research Center), ARL maintains a long-term strategic relationship with the U.S. Navy and provides support for the other services.
ARL is comprised of approximately 1,600 employees located at multiple locations throughout the United States.
- Interview, select, mentor, train, and direct the work of the ARL administrative staff, students, and part-time employees
- Ensure that various forms such as career progressions, reclassifications, salary changes, and security role requests in Penn State systems as well as ARL-specific systems are processed; ensuring all memos and approvals are obtained and system updates are completed accurately and within deadlines
- May assist with the onboarding process; maintain up-to-date records of actions, decisions, and time frames
- Assist the ARL Human Resources Strategic Partner and ARL Human Resources Consultants in the development of policies, procedures, programs, and surveys; collaborate with other ARL departments on various related topics
- Assist ARL employees with the completion of various forms, answering inquiries and/or referring to Penn State Human Resources Services, ensuring compliance with Penn State, ARL, state, and federal requirements
- Provide oversight and collaborate with ARL administrative staff on various ARL related events and projects
- Assist with various ongoing human resources-related projects
- Generate and review reports; update data/information and track changes
Minimum requirements
:
An Associate's degree plus 4 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Agility in managing multiple priorities concurrently
- Ability to resolve issues and prioritize work, both independently and as a team member
- Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality
- Success in an office environment, where various forms of communication and organizational skills were crucial to be effective
- Workday or other Human Capital Management systems
- Atlassian tools Confluence and Jira or other collaboration/project management/issue tracking software
- Success in a human resources environment
Your working location will be hybrid on-site/work from home, located in State College, PA. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.
You will be subject to a government security investigation, and you must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the ARL will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
