About the job

We are seeking a skilled Employee Relations Manager (Investigator) to join our Human Resources team. This position is responsible for providing guidance, support, and recommendations regarding complex and significant employee relations matters. The role involves conducting thorough investigations, maintaining documentation, ensuring accurate record‑keeping, and resolving assigned cases within established time frames. Additionally, this position fosters collaborative relationships and works closely with operational and departmental leadership, Human Resources, Legal and other stakeholders to promote a fair, compliant, and supportive work environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of company policy, culture and values as well as provincial employment laws and regulations, to make recommendations about the resolution of sophisticated and unique employment related issues.
  • Conduct timely, thorough, and objective internal investigations into complex workplace issues, conflicts and escalated matters ensuring thorough investigation documentation/case summaries, effective risk mitigation and timely resolution
  • Serve as a trusted adviser and subject matter expert, offering specialized coaching and guidance on workplace investigations, performance issues, disability management, conflict resolution, and employee well‑being matters to foster effective governance and a positive work environment.
  • Research and prepare required documentation for employee related legal matters, engage in consultation with legal counsel and CHRO, and attend mediations as required.
  • Collaborate with HR Business Partners/Managers, Legal, Global Incident Response, and HR Helpdesk to ensure appropriate resolution of cases.
  • Advise leadership on policy interpretation, employment law compliance, and risk mitigation strategies, and promote knowledge and understanding within the organization.
  • Ensure comprehensive case management processes are in place to conduct the investigation, record findings, and facilitate effective resolution, organizational learning and updated policies and procedures to prevent future risk.
  • Assist with other Employee Relations and HR Compliance work as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Law, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive HR or employee relations experience, with 3+ years of experience conducting workplace investigations
  • Experience in performance management, discipline and dismissal, human rights, complex attendance management and disability management issues.
  • Experience leading multiple, concurrent, high‑priority employee relations activities with a focus on providing clear guidance and timely and consistent execution.
  • Strong knowledge of provincial employment laws, regulations, and HR best practices (multi‑jurisdictional experience an asset). Legal background or direct experience working as a Paralegal an asset.
  • Fluency in English required, excellent verbal and written communications skills. Fluency in French an asset.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and confidentiality.
