WELCOME TO SANTA MONICA COLLEGE! The Human Resources department is excited to recruit for an anticipated opening for Human Resources Analyst - Employee and Labor Relations (Confidential). In this capacity, incumbents will directly support the District's efforts to provide an environment that is conducive to student and employee success by performing a wide range of professional duties related to employee relations, Title 5, and Title IX investigations requiring a high degree of autonomy and independent judgment.
This role reports to the Director of Human Resources and is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, 12 months per year at the Santa Monica College District Offices.
IMPORTANT:
The schedule for this position may vary based on departmental needs. Employees in this position will be paid 5% more than the stated salary due to the variable work schedule.
Our ideal candidate will possess:
- Extensive experience conducting investigations related to employee discipline and/or grievances, alleged discrimination and harassment, analyzing and evaluating information, and formulating conclusions in accordance with evidence and applicable laws and policies, preferably in a unionized or community college environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and prior experience writing formal reports/memos related to investigation findings, disciplinary actions, or related activities.
- An exceptional ability to build trust with individuals encountered in the course of investigations, mitigate conflict, and forge working relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including employees, management, and union leadership as needed to advise on employee relations matters in a political environment.
- Prior experience coordinating and delivering trainings directly related to employee relations, labor relations, and discrimination and harassment.
Santa Monica College has a remote work program option available for employees whose job duties do not require a physical presence on College property. This will primarily be an on-ground position but may include the option to remotely work one day per week at the discretion of management. Remote work arrangements cannot be guaranteed prior to the date of hire and must go through a review and approval process.

Salary PlacementNew Employees: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. A new permanent classified employee may request a higher salary placement based on recruitment issues and/or additional training and experience which greatly exceeds the minimum requirements. Please note that salary placement above the third step requires additional approvals by Santa Monica College executive staff.
Current Employees: Upon promotion, the new salary for a current, permanent employee is based on Merit Rule 12.2.7. In accordance with this rule, employees are entitled to at least a one-step (5%) salary increase, and may be eligible for advanced step…
