We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our Human Resources team on a part‑time basis. This role is responsible for accurately and timely processing payroll for all employees, with a strong emphasis on multi‑state payroll compliance, certified payroll reporting, and construction industry requirements. This role ensures adherence to federal, state, and local regulations while maintaining the highest level of accuracy and confidentiality.

Pay range: $28 - $32/hour rate.

Requirements
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably within the construction industry
  • Demonstrated experience with multi‑state payroll processing
  • Hands‑on experience preparing and submitting certified payroll reports
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll laws, including prevailing wage regulations
  • Experience with payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paychex, UKG, Workday, or similar)
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
Key Responsibilities
  • Process bi‑weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees across multiple states
  • Administer and maintain multi‑state payroll, ensuring compliance with varying tax laws, wage and hour regulations, and local requirements
  • Prepare, submit, and maintain certified payroll reports in compliance with prevailing wage and government contract requirements (e.g., Davis‑Bacon and related acts)
  • Manage payroll for construction projects, including job costing, union payroll (if applicable), prevailing wages, fringe benefits, and garnishments
  • Accurately calculate wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, deductions, and fringe benefits
  • Maintain employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, job classifications, and benefits deductions
  • Coordinate with HR and Project Management teams to ensure accurate labor allocations and reporting
  • Prepare and file payroll tax reports and forms, including W‑2s, 1099s, and state/local filings
  • Reconcile payroll reports and general ledger entries; investigate and resolve discrepancies
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries professionally and confidentially
  • Support internal and external audits by providing payroll documentation and reports
  • Maintain payroll systems and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and compliance
  • Manage and administer 401k payroll entries with HR Technology systems ensuring compliance.
  • Project management for incoming acquisitions to manage the integration of payroll process workflows.
Preferred Skills and Certifications
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)
  • Familiarity with job costing and construction accounting systems
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong time management and problem‑solving skills
  • Experience managing tax accounts and setting up new state tax with holdings
  • Experience in Private Equity environment including acquired business integrations.
