About the Team

OpenAI’s People team aims to hire, engage, and retain world-class talent who will safely build and deploy universally beneficial Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). The Benefits team is an important subset of the HR team and is responsible for creating and delivering best in class, innovative benefits, and experiences for a rapidly growing employee population, both in and out of the US.

About

the role

We’re hiring a U.S. Benefits Analyst to help ensure our benefits programs are accurate, reliable, and easy for employees to navigate as OpenAI scales.

In this role, you’ll work at the intersection of systems, data, and employee experience. You’ll own core U.S. benefits operations—auditing data, reviewing vendor billing, and responding directly to employee questions—while partnering closely with cross‑functional teams.

This is a hands‑on role for someone who takes pride in operational rigor, ownership, and clear, empathetic employee support. You’ll report to the U.S. Benefits Manager and play a key role in maintaining a strong, reliable benefits foundation as the company grows.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Audit and maintain accurate U.S. benefits data across Workday and vendor systems.

  • Review and reconcile benefits vendor invoices; investigate and resolve discrepancies.

  • Serve as a front‑line resource for employee benefits questions, providing clear and empathetic guidance.

  • Maintain benefits elections, eligibility, and configurations in Workday.

  • Partner with Payroll, Finance, HR Systems, and vendors to resolve issues and improve processes.

  • Support key benefits projects such as open enrollment, audits, ongoing operational reviews, and compliance.

  • Identify recurring issues and help improve how benefits are administered at scale.

We’re Seeking:
  • 2–3 years of experience in benefits administration, HR operations, or a related role.

  • Experience supporting U.S. health and welfare benefits and/or retirement plans (e.g., 401(k)).

  • Hands‑on experience with Workday, including transactions, configuration, and audits.

  • Strong attention to detail and comfort working with data and reconciliations.

  • Clear written communication skills and a service‑oriented mindset.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.

Workplace & Location

This role is based in our San Francisco office, and we aren’t considering remote applications at this time. We do encourage you to apply even if you prefer a fully remote role as location factors may change over time.

We offer relocation support to new employees, and we use a hybrid model: three days in the office per week with optional work from home on Thursdays and Fridays.

Our open‑plan offices have height‑adjustable desks, conference rooms, phone booths, well‑stocked kitchens full of snacks and drinks, three in‑house prepared meals daily, a private outdoor space for working in the sun or socializing, nap rooms, private bike storage, and more.
