This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.
Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role &Key Responsibilities
Our team oversees the administration for the recruitment of Police Officers and PCSO's as well as internal and external recruitment of support staff at all levels.
As an Assistant in the friendly Attraction and Recruitment team, you will gain valuable experience in a wide range of processes from the basic administration level, moving up to understand and advise on the policies and law that underpin these processes.
You’ll be responsible for providing administrative support, responding to queries and giving basic advice to enquiring members of the public, applicants and hiring managers. Using a range of systems, including our applicant tracking system and SAP, your duties will include:
- Leading on the administration process of one or more bulk recruitment campaign from the initial advert to hiring on SAP and on-boarding
- Arranging, allocating and attending to support appointments such as interviews and pre-employment check appointments.
- Responding to queries via telephone, email and face to face, providing advice and guidance to our customers.
- Assess candidates against set criteria at relevant recruitment stages and proceed and reject them accordingly.
- Access and maintain recruitment records in relation to selection processes.
As a team we are based at Sussex Police Headquarters, Lewes and team members are expected to attend this location at least twice a week, there may be a requirement to attend more on occasion. There is a degree of flexibility with the working hours and when not required in the office team members can work from home.
Skills & ExperienceYou will need:
- excellent customer service skills
- attention to detail
- excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
- administration experience
- a good level of literacy and numeracy
- the ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
- Microsoft Word and Excel skills are essential
- it is desirable to have experience in using an applicant tracking system and HR system (we use Talentlink and SAP HR).
- a CIPD membership or HR qualification is desired but is not essential for the role.
