Your Role

Are you looking at starting a career in HR?

Are you organised, confident using technology and good at communicating with different people? Are you looking for an opportunity where you can learn, take on real responsibility and build valuable professional experience?

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Human Resources Officer to join our People and Organisational Development service.

This could be an excellent first step into HR for a recent graduate, someone completing their studies or a person looking to begin a new career. You do not need to have followed a particular route into HR. We are interested in the skills you can bring, your willingness to learn and your ability to provide a helpful, accurate and professional service.

You will primarily work within our Recruitment team, helping candidates and managers throughout the recruitment and new starter journey. You may also have opportunities to support other areas of HR, including payroll, pensions, HR advice, workforce information and service transformation.

The role will give you the opportunity to manage your own tasks, solve problems, work to deadlines and build relationships with colleagues across a large and varied organisation.

There are lots of opportunities for career developments, such as the potential to do apprenticeships including CIPD Level 3 or 5.

This is an opportunity to develop practical experience that can support a future career in HR, recruitment, project support, business administration, payroll or wider public services.

Training and support will be provided to help you learn the Council’s systems, procedures and ways of working.

About You

You do not need years of previous HR experience to be considered. We would like to hear from you if you can demonstrate that you:

• are organised and can manage different tasks and deadlines
• pay close attention to detail
• communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
• are confident using IT, including Microsoft Word and Excel
• enjoy helping people and providing a positive service
• can handle personal information sensitively and confidentially

You may have developed these skills through university, college, volunteering, a part-time job, a placement, caring responsibilities, extracurricular activities or other life experience. Please use examples from any part of your experience that show us what you can do.
