Linux Systems Engineer

Join Communication Technology Services (CTS) as a Linux Systems Engineer to support our Data Center Operations team. Although this is primarily a remote position, candidates located near Orlando, FL are highly preferred.

Full-Stack authority across all aspects of CTS’s Data Center and Customer-Premise deployed computer equipment, including hardware, Host OS, hypervisor, Guest OS, orchestration, applications, and monitoring.

• Support physical and virtual computing environments in a Linux-based data center.
• Administer Red Hat/CentOS/Rocky (CentOS 7/9) and troubleshoot security.
• Manage Linux iscsi block devices using iscsiadm, LVM, and multipath.
• Virtualize with Linux KVM: create, copy, manage, and monitor virtual guests.
• Administer MySQL databases: replication, clustering, backups, and queries.
• Perform IP networking tasks: addressing, subnetting, NAT, routing protocols, iptables, and bridging.
• Data munging: extract and present useful information from logs and databases.
• Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
• Develop Knowledge Base articles and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Investigate, diagnose, and resolve production issues as logged by monitoring tools or reported by customers.

• Minimum 5 years of experience supporting physical and virtual network and computing environments in a Linux-based data center.
• Experience with physical and virtual server implementation, SAN, NFS, LVM, iscsi, Linux-ha, Dev Ops, 24x7x365 operations, and enterprise hardware (HP Proliant, HPE Synergy, Dell, Super Micro).
• Proficient troubleshooting production issues and implementing updates.
• Understanding of HTTP, DNS, RADIUS, SSH, and SMTP.
• Packet capture analysis: differentiate protocol-level vs. connectivity issues.
• Write and troubleshoot Perl, Python, or Linux Shell scripts.
• Experience with Open Nebula virtualization management, Cacti and Nagios monitoring is strongly desired.
• Experience with Linux KVM, MySQL clustering/replication, container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Rancher), and clustering tools (Pace Maker) is strongly desired.
• Working knowledge of ZFS SAN systems, Java application servers (Tomcat, JBoss), and message brokers.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, strong research, investigation, and evaluation skills.
• Results-oriented, highly flexible, and able to work with minimal supervision.

• 4-year Technical Degree (e.g., BSCS, BSEE) or equivalent workplace experience.

Annualized pay range of $105,000–$115,000 commensurate with experience.
