Data Engineering ManagerWe’re building out our Data Engineering and Business Intelligence function and seeking a Data Engineering Manager to lead this growing area. This role is both strategic and hands‑on: you’ll define and execute our data strategy, oversee data infrastructure, and deliver insights that empower both internal decision-making and customer‑facing experiences. You’ll also directly manage and mentor a Data Engineer, shaping the future of how Gov Docs leverages data across the business.
You’ll thrive here if you’re equal parts strategist and builder: someone who can see the big picture while diving into details when needed. You’ll collaborate across teams, foster data‑driven decision making, and bring energy, curiosity, and a growth mindset to building a modern, scalable data function.
What You’ll Do:- Lead and grow the data function by defining the vision, roadmap, and priorities for data engineering and business intelligence in alignment with company strategy and business needs.
- Collaborate with business, product, and engineering teams to translate goals into actionable data products, reports, and dashboards that drive decision‑making.
- Implement and maintain best practices for data governance, security, and quality assurance aligned with SOC 2 and company standards.
- Design, build, and oversee scalable, reliable, and secure data systems and pipelines in Azure.
- Provide hands‑on technical leadership by reviewing design and code, contributing to architecture decisions, and driving a high standard of engineering quality.
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- 6+ years of relevant experience in data engineering, analytics, or business intelligence, including at least 2 years in a formal leadership role.
- Strong technical foundation in modern data engineering technologies with hands‑on experience using Azure services (Data Factory, Synapse, Function Apps), SQL, and Python.
- Proven ability to lead projects end‑to‑end—from scoping and prioritization through delivery—while establishing effective processes and methodologies for consistent execution.
- Experience developing and communicating a clear data strategy that aligns technical investments and initiatives with business goals.
- Demonstrated ability to design, build, and maintain scalable data lakes, pipelines, and BI solutions that serve both internal and customer‑facing needs.
- Solid understanding of data modeling, governance, and visualization practices, including dimensional modeling, DAX, data quality frameworks, and tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a coaching mindset and the ability to connect technical decisions to business outcomes.
- You lead by example and share your passion to inspire those around you for growth. You are authentic, driven and positive.
- You possess emotional intelligence and empathy. You have a good sense of humor, are self‑aware and self‑critical, but not arrogant. You handle interpersonal dynamics with grace.
- You do more than the minimum to achieve outstanding results by being hands‑on and rolling up your sleeves when necessary.
- You thrive in a growth‑oriented company by embracing and adapting to changes easily. You are open‑minded and flexible.
- Your clear communication fosters understanding and collaboration. You express ideas effectively but are also an active listener.
