Distributed computing course introduces key principles and challenges in designing and implementing distributed systems. Topics include computer networking, concurrent programming, distributed architectures, algorithms, and system analysis. Students develop proficiency through programming exercises, laboratories, and a term-long, hardware-centric team project.
Required Skills- Significant programming and software system design experience
- Experience with Go (Golang)
- Familiarity with git, VSCode, Linux command line tools
Familiarity with concurrent programming, computer networking, interprocess communication (e.g., RPC) is a plus. Previous teaching or mentoring experience desirable.
ResponsibilitiesSupport faculty and students during the online MEng course. Tasks include:
- Assist with synchronous sessions, office hours, and discussion forums
- Help administer Coursera platform and assist with grading
- Provide technical support related to course content
Expected commitment: approximately 15 hours per week. Required training in June before the term begins.
Qualifications Required- Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or related field
- Experience with Go
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Time‑management, problem‑solving, multi‑tasking abilities
- Follow‑up and task tracking skills
- Experience designing and implementing concurrent and distributed systems
- MS/PhD or equivalent experience in computer engineering or related field
- Experience as a teaching assistant or instructor
- Familiarity with learning management systems, especially Coursera
