Lead Dev Ops SRE (Remote Eligible)

Join the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) team as a Lead Dev Ops SRE. SPP is a mission-driven technology organization that powers reliability across the electric grid and delivers safe, affordable power to millions of people. Remote work is available for senior-level positions and only for candidates residing outside a 50‑mile radius of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Compensation

Pay range: $ – $. Salary may be above or outside this range based on qualifications, experience and geographic location.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and lead implementation of large‑scale, highly available infrastructure solutions across multiple platforms.
  • Serve as primary technical escalation point for complex incidents, outages and performance issues.
  • Establish SRE best practices and operational frameworks that raise reliability standards across the entire organization.
  • Mentor and develop senior and junior SRE team members through coaching, code reviews and knowledge sharing.
  • Partner with leadership, architects and technical teams to align reliability initiatives with long‑term architectural strategy.
  • Drive continuous improvement, automation and reduction of operational toil across environments.
  • Lead major enterprise projects involving new technologies, cross‑team automation and reliability enhancements.
  • Make architectural decisions that influence scalability, resiliency and infrastructure management standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute test plans to evaluate system performance.
  • Plan and schedule deployment activities and resolve release pipeline issues.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of SPP’s architecture and technology portfolio.
  • Communicate technology standards and policies.
  • Design and oversee implementation of integrated systems and databases.
  • Ensure system and software integrations meet functional and compliance requirements.
  • Conduct application testing (unit, system, regression, performance, acceptance).
  • Write and translate code to enhance application performance.
  • Provide architectural consulting across engineering and development teams.
  • Serve as the organizational subject matter expert in SRE.

To be Successful as a Lead Dev Ops SRE, We’re Looking For:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of experience building highly available systems and supporting SaaS cloud‑based infrastructure.
  • Experience with Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes or other Infrastructure/Configuration‑as‑code tooling.
  • Experience using at least one scripting language such as Python, Bash, Power Shell or similar.
  • Experience deploying to cloud‑based technology (AWS).
  • Experience with continuous integration (CI/CD) and automated build tools.
  • Ability to tackle problems both at large scale and the small scale.
  • Good understanding of application/infrastructure security.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate with distributed teams.
Preferred
  • Familiar with Dev Ops environments / Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Good knowledge of algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis and software design.
  • Experience with integration tools:
    Bitbucket, GIT, Bamboo, Jenkins, Code Pipeline, Drone

    CI, Docker, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of Unix/Linux systems is often essential, including basic command‑line proficiency, system administration tasks and troubleshooting skills.
