Travel is up to 20%. Employees will be required to occasionally travel to our corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, TX for in-person meetings. Travel expenses for business needs will be covered by BNSF.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities may include: This is a full stack infrastructure engineering role, involving backend services, APIs, and developer-facing tooling for our infrastructure and platform services. Develop and operate Kubernetes-native systems using Git Ops workflows. Build and operate infrastructure as code, automation, and observability tools and services. Collaborate with internal application teams to improve platform usability and feedback. Help design and run systems that scale across data centers, edge devices, and cloud environments.

Basic Qualifications
  • Authorized to work in the US
  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with IaaS, PaaS, Open NOS, Service Mesh, block/object storage, Containers, Linux, SQL, and No

    SQL DBs
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages used in infrastructure (e.g. Go, Python, and Java)
  • Familiarity with container-based development
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and Dev Ops practices
  • Interest in open-source infrastructure and developer platforms
  • Familiarity with observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Open Telemetry)
  • Experience with secure coding practices and infrastructure security principles
  • Familiarity with secrets management and identity and access control
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and communicate with stakeholders
  • Experience participating in design reviews, incident retrospectives, or RFC processes
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technical concepts and to adapt to new technologies quickly
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or a related field
  • Engineering experience with a public IaaS company (AWS, Digital Ocean, GCP, Core Weave, etc.)
  • Experience running infrastructure platforms in production such as Open Stack, Ceph, Kubernetes, DBaaS, service mesh, and API gateways
  • Experience with edge systems and hybrid environments
  • Familiarity with developer tooling as a builder and/or user
  • Interest in sustainable infrastructure and cost/resource awareness
  • Familiarity with frameworks like React, Angular, Node.js, Spring Boot
