Data Engineer
The Los Angeles Angels are seeking a Data Engineer (Baseball Systems Developer) to join the Baseball Operations’ Research & Development team. In this role, you will work with other developers to design, build, and maintain the data infrastructure that powers the Angels' decision-making processes across scouting, player development, and in-game strategy. The position reports directly to the Senior Director, Research and Development.
This position is benefit-eligible, including: medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401K eligibility; employee contributions after 3 months; employer matching and safe harbor after 1 year and 1000 hours of employment; and additional perks not listed above. The expected annual salary for this position ranges from $95,000 to $110,000. Final offers will be made within these parameters.
Responsibilities:- Solid working knowledge of Python (2+ years strongly preferred), preferably using pandas.
- Proficient in SQL principles, including table keys, indexes, data modeling, and stored procedures.
- Ability to design scalable, high-performance data solutions.
- Experience using third-party API documentation to build dynamic systems.
- Ability to work in-person at Angel Stadium most days, with occasional remote work opportunities.
- Willingness to work and/or be on-call during nights and weekends, especially during the baseball season.
- Experience designing, building, and maintaining relational databases (SQL Server, Postgre
SQL, etc.). - Knowledge of workflow orchestration tools like Airflow or Dagster.
- Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines for applications.
- Experience managing Linux or Windows servers using Bash or Power Shell.
- Basic knowledge of storage solutions (NAS, file systems, etc.) for large volumes of non-relational data.
- Familiarity with cloud computing and data warehousing (GCP preferred).
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- A passion for baseball analytics.
- Ability to sit for extended periods frequently.
- Use hands frequently for keyboard, mouse, and computer use.
- Occasionally work in inclement weather when in stadium.
- Traverse between office and stadium frequently.
- Occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
