Software Developer Section Supervisor

Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting for a Software Developer Section Supervisor. Responsible for supervising development staff that support applications based upon a variety of technologies, including Java web applications, Service Now applications, Jasper reporting tools, a cloud-based accounting platform that is .Net based, and RDBMS based upon Oracle and SQL Server as well as Snowflake data warehouse. This section relies upon Jira for day-to-day operations, and ISD has implemented the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).

This position reports to the Software & Data Systems Bureau Chief. This position is required to work in the Helena, MT office at least 3 days a week.

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology management, business management, computer science or information systems.
• 4 years of work experience in one or a combination of the following: software development, web development, GIS development, database administration or related field.
• 2 years of experience managing software and/or web developers, GIS professionals, database administrators, or data warehouse/data analytics staff.
• Alternative combinations of related experience and education may be considered. Such as 8 years related experience and 2 years of supervision.

• Knowledge of a programming language such as Java, Agile Development; or knowledge of the Service Now platform, or ESRI technology and GIS solutions; or database platforms such as Oracle or SQL Server database environments; or web development tools and solutions.
• Proficient in contract, vendor, and procurement management.
• Knowledge of industry best practices and innovative technologies.
