Cisco Network Infrastructure Engineer (Remote from anywhere in Colorado)

Colorado Department of Revenue invites applications for the Cisco Network Infrastructure Engineer position. The role is term‑limited with an anticipated end date of approximately one year from the date of hire, eligible for State employee benefits and potentially extendable.

Job Overview

As a subject‑matter expert, you will design, implement, and support complex statewide network solutions for LAN/WAN, wireless, data center, and cloud technologies. You will act as a technical lead for planning, testing, and administrating network solutions, establishing best‑practice standards, and interfacing with network operations, security operations, and telecommunications teams.

Responsibilities
  • Design, configure, administer, and deploy mission‑critical network hardware and applications, providing Network as a Service (NaaS) to State agencies.
  • Maximize network performance by monitoring, troubleshooting, addressing security concerns, and resolving outages; schedule upgrades and collaborate on network optimization.
  • Provide expertise on network design, solutions, and implementation for new projects.
  • Analyze performance and comparative costs of products to determine the most cost‑effective solutions.
  • Offer recommendations and solutions to leadership.
  • Partner with customers and vendors to clarify rationale for technical decisions and concepts.
Travel Requirement

Occasional travel within Colorado may be required. Travel will be planned in advance and expenses reimbursed per existing policies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of experience in a field related to the role, including:
    • Configuring Cisco‑based routing and switching for local campus and wide‑area networks.
    • Leading and planning network projects.
    • Working with Cisco DNAC.
    • Using network monitoring applications.
    • Developing network topologies.
  • Additional education may substitute for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis, but cannot fully substitute for these qualifications.
  • Training or certification related to the role may be credited toward substitutions, but cannot fully substitute.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of professional engineering experience in network design, architecture, and implementation.
  • Cisco Professional and/or Expert certifications (CCNP, CCIE).
  • Experience with wireless technologies, Cisco ISE, Cisco DNAC, data center technologies, Software‑Defined Access (SDA), Software‑Defined WAN (SDWAN), scripting, and automation.
  • Understanding or certification in Agile/Scrum Methodologies.
Conditions of Employment

OIT employees must comply with screening procedures at state locations where required. A pre‑employment background check and, for certain agencies, a drug test will be conducted.

Positions supporting agencies such as the Department of Corrections or the Department of Public Safety may require additional pre‑employment testing.

Remote work must be performed in Colorado. Candidates from out of state may be considered, but the selected candidate must relocate to Colorado on the first day of employment, with relocation timeframe established individually.
