CTO​/Principal Engineer; REMOTE

Role and Mission:
Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Salary: $250k-$300k base + equity

The CTO will own the technical vision, architecture, and execution of Solid Starts’ digital ecosystem — spanning web, mobile, and backend systems.

This is both a strategic and hands‑on role: you’ll lead the long‑term technology roadmap while directly contributing to development and scaling efforts. You will hire and grow a small, efficient engineering team, ensure platform reliability and security, and partner with leadership to bring innovative digital experiences to life. You will work closely with the new CEO, Yuliya Lennox, who is an expert in data‑driven mobile app growth and paid marketing.

• Define and execute the technology roadmap to ensure scalability, performance, and security.
• Oversee technical architecture for Next.js web and iOS/Android apps, ensuring seamless integration with backend services.
• Lead implementation of a modern Dev Ops stack, leveraging AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito, Dynamo
  
  DB), Git Hub Actions, and Fastlane.
• Ensure data‑driven decision making, observability, and compliance with security best practices.
• Evaluate and integrate third‑party tools including Contentful, Stripe, Sentry, Mixpanel, and Braze.

• Build and mentor a lean, high‑performing engineering team.
• Foster an ownership‑driven culture that values craftsmanship, accountability, and learning.
• Recruit top technical talent and establish scalable team processes and workflows.

• Partner closely with Product and Content teams to deliver engaging user experiences.
• Translate user and business needs into elegant, maintainable technical solutions.
• Champion innovation balanced with pragmatism, keeping the stack modern but efficient.

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years in a technical leadership or CTO/Head of Engineering capacity.
• Proven ability to build and manage small, agile teams.
• Hands‑on experience with:
  • Frontend:
    Next.js, React, Type Script
  • Backend: AWS serverless stack (Lambda, API Gateway, Dynamo
    
    DB, Cognito)
  • Dev Ops:
    Git Hub Actions, Fastlane, AWS CI/CD
  • Mobile:
    App Store / Play Store operations and mobile app lifecycle management. React Native experience is preferred.
• Excellent product intuition and ability to align technical execution with user needs.
• Entrepreneurial mindset suited for a fast‑paced, content‑driven startup.
• Familiarity with mobile app lifecycle management (App Store / Play Store).
• Strong communication and leadership skills with a collaborative approach.

• Experience in consumer tech or health‑tech startups.
• Understanding of growth analytics and marketing automation tools.
• Background as a Founder or Founding Engineer.
