Vacancy for Digital Collections Management Co-Ordinator at British Library

14 September 2022

£29,000 per annum

Full-Time

The British Library's Digital Collection is a unique treasure trove, including digitised manuscripts, books, born digital personal archives, eBooks, eJournal articles, electoral registers, a world of Sound, the UK Web Archive, and more. It contains many millions of digital objects and files, totaling over a petabyte of data. Efficient management of these items is essential for their long-term preservation and accessibility.

This role offers a rare opportunity to join the newly developed Digital Collections Management team and contribute to a holistic approach to managing the Library's Digital Collection. The successful candidate will support the Head of Digital Collections Management by implementing the digital aspects of the Collection Management Strategy, collaborating with curatorial colleagues across the Library to ensure comprehensive coverage at all lifecycle stages.

Additionally, the post holder will manage local services such as the Digital Media Capture Unit to ensure digital acquisitions are properly processed and preserved.

The position offers excellent growth potential. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest and knowledge of the Library's Digital Collections, with at least years of managerial and operational experience with digital library systems or technologies. An undergraduate degree in Library, Archives, or Information Science, or a related field, is required, along with a solid understanding of digital lifecycle management, long-term digital preservation, and curation.

The role requires excellent interpersonal skills, independence, attention to detail, and proficiency in writing, desktop computing, and information management. The ideal candidate will be a confident self-starter capable of working and communicating effectively with colleagues from diverse disciplines.

The role is primarily based in Boston Spa, Yorkshire, with flexible working options including part-time remote work. Occasional travel to London and international travel for digital collection initiatives may also be required.
