Job Description:
Before you apply, please note:
- This is a full-time role open to candidates residing in Romania.
We’re seeking a Solutions Engineer (IT System Administrator) to support Smart Deploy, our Windows imaging and deployment platform, which enables system administrators to create, manage, and deploy hardware-independent OS images across diverse environments.
This role is designed for experienced system administrators with a strong technical foundation in Windows OS deployment and imaging.
While you’ll focus on Smart Deploy and build deep expertise in its imaging and deployment capabilities, you’ll also expand to support an additional PDQ product.
You’ll help other sysadmins (our customers) solve difficult technical issues across a wide range of environments. You'll work in English with a US-based team. You will be solving challenging problems with other people like you: system administrators with real-world experience.
What you'll be doing:
- Respond to customer support tickets (primarily via email, occasionally via remote sessions) related to Windows imaging, deployment, and device management. You’ll be working directly with other system administrators, not end users.
- Investigate and troubleshoot deployment failures, connectivity issues, imaging anomalies, and configuration challenges.
- Reproduce and elevate bugs to engineering with clear documentation.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, KB articles, and usage guides.
- Capture and communicate feature requests and product feedback from customers to the Product and Engineering teams.
- Collaborate with internal teams to test new features, validate fixes, and improve support processes.
We're looking for people who:
Must Have:
- High English proficiency (B2 - C1 minimum). You must be able to communicate clearly and confidently with English-speaking customers and US-based teammates.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience as a system administrator, IT technician, or in a similar role managing Windows environments with 300+ endpoints.
- Solid understanding of Windows, Active Directory, networking fundamentals, credentials, and Group Policy.
- Demonstrated experience with Windows imaging and deployment tools, such as Smart Deploy, SCCM, WDS+MDT, FOG, or Intune, as well as underlying components such as the Windows ADK, Windows
PE, DISM, and the Windows Imaging Format (.wim). - Understanding of Sysprep, device driver management, WIM/VHD, and hardware-independent image creation.
Should Have:
- Exposure to virtualization technologies (Hyper‑V, VMware, or Virtual Box).
- Working knowledge of Power Shell for automation and troubleshooting.
- Experience with cloud‑managed systems (Intune, Azure AD, MDMs).
- Previous experience supporting technical users or working in a customer‑facing support environment.
Nice to Have:
- Previous work directly with Smart Deploy or other PDQ products.
- After mastering Smart Deploy, you’ll gain exposure to PDQ Connect, PDQ Deploy, and PDQ Inventory, expanding into broader Windows device management. PDQ encourages cross‑product growth, autonomy, and technical curiosity.
Compensation:
- 10,000 – 11,200+ net RON/month, depending on experience
Schedule & Training:
- First 2‑3 months: 11:00 - 20:00 EET (training overlaps with U.S. team)
- After onboarding:
Normal Romanian business hours with occasional late meetings
Interview Process:
We respect your time and aim for a clear, efficient process typically completed within less than 2‑3 weeks.
- Homework Assignment: After applying, you’ll receive a short technical exercise based on Smart Deploy. It’s designed to take under 45 minutes and evaluate your troubleshooting and technical clarity.
- Preliminary Interview: If…
