The Technical Sales Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert to support USP Microbiology products and their use. The incumbent will provide technical expertise, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and engage in inside sales activities. This position requires close collaboration with the Technical Services team and colleagues across the USP Microbiology Unit, including business development and marketing teams, to ensure technical inquiries are addressed effectively and accurately.
The role includes managing customer inquiries related to Microbiology products through a CRM and helping resolve issues promptly while equipping internal teams with the knowledge and resources needed for various activities.
This is a hybrid role requiring 60% monthly onsite presence in St. Paul, MN.
Responsibilities- Manage and resolve inquiries from customers, distributors, and USP colleagues via email, video call, and phone to address product and service issues and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Ensure departmental efficiencies, including customer response time and issue resolution time, by providing technical product expertise.
- Conduct inside sales activities to drive adoption of relevant products and offerings.
- Assist in the development of front-line support tools, including training materials for new customers and new employees.
- Participate in support-related lab work and hands-on training of USP Microbiology products for customers, distributors, and colleagues.
- Generate customer-facing technical documentation such as FAQs, troubleshooting guides, user guides, and application notes.
- Provide technical support to QA, marketing, sales, and other teams; support product improvement through collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Maintain critical customer data using CRM software tools (Salesforce).
- Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related life science field with 5–7 years of experience in technical sales, application specialist, and/or QC microbiology roles in North America; or Master’s degree with 3–5 years of relevant experience.
- Microbiology knowledge gained through technical or laboratory experience.
- Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail with ability to respond promptly to customers.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively; capable of working autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
- Team-oriented with proficiency in CRM software (Salesforce preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Microbiology lab experience or pharma/biopharma microbiology QA/QC experience.
- Experience with environmental monitoring, qualification/validation, growth promotion, bioburden, sterility testing, or rapid microbiology methods.
- Advanced degree or certifications in microbiology-related fields.

Compensation & BenefitsBase Salary Range: USD $73,400 – $93,300 annually. Target annual bonus varies by role level. Individual compensation is based on skills, experience, qualifications, equity, and other job-related factors.
