Tech Ops Supervisor - Remote
Summary
We are seeking a strategic and hands‑on Tech Ops Supervisor to lead a team focused on enabling product teams (PTS) through operational excellence, observability modernization, and SDLC maturity. This role will be instrumental in driving automation, reliability, and performance across our Tech Ops domains. The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation, people leadership experience, and a passion for continuous improvement aligned with Dev Sec Ops and SRE principles.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership & Strategy
- Lead and mentor a team of Specialists, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Drive the Tech Ops roadmap with a focus on: product team support (PTS), observability modernization (tracing, tagging, instrumentation), SDLC observability and DORA metrics, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) maturity.
- Operational Enablement
- Enable Change and Problem Management teams to leverage Datadog observability tools for evaluating release quality. This includes training them on using SLOs, DORA metrics, and CI Visibility dashboards, and partnering to build meaningful visualizations that inform decision‑making and improve change risk assessments.
- Partner with the Incident Response Team (IRT) to ensure monitoring efforts are focused on actionable, high‑value alerts. Collaborate to reduce false positives, validate operational and technical procedures, and improve alert tagging and mapping. Support the IRT team in managing Datadog On‑call and Incident Management workflows, including optimization of the Incident Management and On‑call analytics dashboards.
- Technical Execution
- Oversee implementation and optimization of CI/CD observability pipelines, monitoring and alerting systems, instrumentation of Cloud infrastructure (Serverless, EC2, ECS Fargate), and Observability IaC configurations (Terraform, Ansible, Chef).
- Champion automation of operational procedures to reduce toil and improve reliability.
- Ensure systems are scalable, secure, and cost‑optimized.
- ‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with development teams to align on service reliability, performance, and instrumentation.
- Act as a liaison between Tech Ops, Engineering, Security, and IT to support developer productivity and platform goals.
- Communicate project status, risks, and impact to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- 8+ years in Tech Ops, Dev Ops, or SRE roles, with 4+ years in people management capacity.
- Strong hands‑on experience with Ansible, Bash, Python, Chef, Ruby, Terraform, Git, Git Hub, Git Hub Actions, and AWS (EC2, ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, Load Balancers).
- Deep understanding of observability practices: tracing, tagging, instrumentation, and monitoring at scale.
- Proven experience implementing and tracking DORA metrics:
Deployment Frequency, Lead Time for Changes, Change Failure Rate, and Time to Restore Service. - Demonstrated success in automating operational workflows and scaling solutions.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills with a track record of working closely with software engineering teams.
- Experience in large‑scale enterprise environments.
- Familiarity with Dev Sec Ops practices and compliance frameworks (e.g., PCI‑DSS, CIS Git Hub Benchmark, Release Policies).
- Exposure to AIOps, incident management tooling, and service ownership models.
- Experience managing hybrid cloud or multi‑region environments.
This is a remote‑based position, working from your home office. Typical working hours are Monday‑Friday 8am‑5pm
. Schedules may be adjusted to accommodate business needs in a 24x7 environment.
The starting salary for this role is estimated to be between $74,900 and $99,000. Base pay will be determined based on several factors, which include but are not limited to applicable skills, work experience, education, business needs and market demands. This position is not eligible for a bonus.
