UNICEF is committed to accessibility for all employees, children, and communities. UNICEF has invested in digital accessibility through assessments of key ICT systems, such as E-recruitment, Agora, Drupal, SharePoint, Vision, and Achieve.

UNICEF is seeking an Accessibility Consultant to support and sustain the Digital Accessibility Helpdesk into a fully institutionalized function. The consultant will strengthen UNICEF’s digital accessibility efforts and advance commitments under the 2030 Disability Inclusion Policy and Strategy (DIPAS).

Key Responsibilities
  • Institutionalization of Digital Accessibility Procedures and Processes
  • Standards development and documentation for digital accessibility
  • Advocacy and integration into key institutional processes (procurement, ICTD digital solutions)
  • Accessibility Classification system design and implementation
  • Accessibility auditing and remediation support for websites, mobile apps, and digital content
  • Day‑to‑day support to the Accessibility Helpdesk and ticket resolution
  • Partnership development with UN agencies and external stakeholders
  • Content development for internal knowledge sites and training on digital accessibility
Deliverables
  • Accessibility Helpdesk support and ticket processing
  • Audit reports for accessibility issues across digital platforms
  • Knowledge transfer and training on digital accessibility
  • Strategic expansion plan for scaling the Accessibility Helpdesk across UN agencies
Qualifications
  • Advanced user of screen reading software and proficient with at least two widely used computer screen readers
  • Proficient with at least one major smartphone or tablet screen reader
  • Effective communication to both technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Proficient in office applications (Adobe Acrobat, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Mozilla Firefox) and familiarity with accessibility features
  • Experience managing projects, tracking progress, and liaising with multiple teams
  • Experience with AI (particularly GenAI) and accessibility
  • Fluent in English (other UN languages a plus)
Compensation and Benefits

Competitive salary according to UNICEF’s paid leave and benefits package. The 12‑month contract may be extended.
